Q: What is CAPP and Canadian Geographic’s relationship?
Energy IQ is funded in partnership with CAPP, which enables Canadian Geographic to provide the resources required for teaching purposes. Without partner funding, Canadian Geographic could not deliver its educational programs.
Canadian Geographic’s mandate is to foster interest in and understanding of Canadian geography, which is done by providing teachers with reliable resources by gathering content from leading industry experts and professional associations representing Canada’s energy mix.
Q: Who decides what content is posted to the website?
Q: Who decides what Slideshows get featured?
Canadian Geographic has control over which Slideshows get featured to the live website. We have a list of criteria that needs to be met to make sure that a featured Slideshow contains appropriate, informative and educational content.
Q: The video won’t play for me?
Currently, all video content on the Energy IQ site is delivered via YouTube’s embedded video tools, with the exception of the video elements in the Quizzes section.

The video quizzes are displayed using a modern HTML5 video player. Please ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for YouTube video and that your computer is not blocking the video.js script (you may need assistance from your IT department).
If you are still experiencing issues, please submit a help request describing the problem and including your browser and operating system versions (i.e. Windows 8 + Internet Explorer 10).
Q: How do I switch between languages?
The Energy IQ website is available in English and French. You can choose either language simply by clicking the alternative language hyperlink in the top right corner underneath the Giant Floor Map Booking button.

Q: What is an Energy IQ Slideshow?
A Slideshow is a tool available only on the Energy IQ website that enables you to produce custom ‘presentations’ of site content chosen specifically by you. You can add slides to your slideshow by creating your own custom slide (containing text content) and/ or by selecting items from the Interactive Learning Centre with our integrated, online tool. Slideshows can be presented on-screen as a multimedia slide deck or exported as a PDF for printed handouts. You may create as many different slideshows as you wish, each with its own content selected and ordered for your specific presentation requirements.
Q: How do I create a Slideshow?
Creating a Slideshow is easy. Once you are logged into your account, you have two options for creating a new slideshow.
Option 1: Click on the Member Centre link in the green menu to load the slideshow dashboard. The Dashboard displays a grid showing all of available slideshows. The first item in this list is the “Create New Slideshow” button. Clicking on this button will launch a dialogue box that will ask you to name your new slideshow. Submitting this form will create the new slideshow and take you to the title slide of your new slideshow. You can now start adding content to your slideshow.
Option 2: When you are logged into your account, you can start a new slideshow while browsing the content of the site. Each content item on the site has a small “Add To Slideshow” icon attached to the top right corner. Clicking this icon will launch a dialogue box with a list of all your existing slideshows. Selecting an existing slideshow from this list will add the content item to that slideshow as a new slide. You may also select the “Create New Slideshow” option. Selecting this option will present a second dialogue asking you to name your slideshow. Once you submit this form, the new slideshow will be created and the content item will be added to the new slideshow as a slide.

Q: How do I share a Slideshow?
You can share your Slideshow with another registered user by clicking on the ‘share’ button that appears when you hover over a Slideshow (not in play mode). Slideshow sharing requires you to enter the email address of the person you wish to share your slideshow with. They will receive an email letting them know that you have shared your slideshow with them and a link to that slideshow. Clicking on the link, they will be asked to login to their account and, once they have logged in, they will see your slideshow in their Member Centre.
If they do not currently have an account with the site, they will be able to create one during the sharing process and the shared slideshow will show up in their account when they complete the registration process. NOTE: They must use the same email address as you entered when sharing for the slideshow to be shared to them.
Featured slideshows are available to the general public without them having to have an account on the site. To share a Featured slideshow with someone, simply copy the url of the slideshow and send it to anyone who you wish to show it to.
Q: How do I print a Slideshow?
Print any Slideshow be pressing the ‘export’ button. The ‘export’ button is displayed as a printer icon in the slideshow menu on each slideshow in your Member Centre. You can also find the icon at the top right of each slideshow slide when you are in slideshow edit mode. The Slideshow will download as a PDF file to your computer and can easily be printed.
Q: How do I add content to a Slideshow?
There are two options available for adding content slides to your slideshow.
Option 1: Open an existing slideshow in edit mode. On the left hand side you will see thumbnails of all slides within your Slideshow. At the bottom of the thumbnails panel there are ‘Add Slide’, ‘Duplicate Slide’ and ‘Delete Slide’ icons. By pressing on the ‘Add Slide’ icon you will get a pop up window that will ask you if you want to add a ‘Custom Text Slide’ or a ‘Content Slide’. A Custom Text Slide is a slide that enables you to write your own header and sub text. Choosing a Content Slide will take you to a search that allows you to use keywords, content types and terms to find content from the website that you might want to include in your slideshow. Each content item is displayed as a thumbnail. Clicking on a content item will add that item to the end of your slideshow. You will see the new slide added in the thumbnails panel. Clicking on any slide in the thumbnail panel will take you out of the search tool and to that specific slide.
Option 2: When you are logged into your account, you can start a new slideshow while browsing the content of the site. Each content item on the site has a small “Add To Slideshow” icon attached to the top right corner. Clicking this icon will launch a dialogue box with a list of all your existing slideshows. Selecting an existing slideshow from this list will add the content item to that slideshow as a new slide.
Q: How do I reorder the slides in my Slideshow?
Open the Slideshow that you wish to modify in edit mode. In the thumbnails panel on the left side, click and hold a slide thumbnail and drag to the new position in the slideshow that you wish it to have. You will see the other thumbnails move around to accommodate the slide you are moving. Release the slide thumbnail to drop it into the new position.
Q: How do I save changes I have made to my Slideshow?
All changes are saved automatically by the system. You will see an “auto-saved” message show up in the top right corner of the Slideshow edit page with a date and time when an auto-save action is initiated. This message will disappear after a few moments.
NOTE: there is no option to retrieve any previous versions of your Slideshow as we only save the current state of the slideshow.
Q: My Slideshow has asterisks showing up in the text?
If the text in your Slideshow is showing asterisks, that means that you have included offensive terms into your Slideshow. When you view your Slideshow in ‘Edit’ mode, you will see which words are considered offensive by the system as they will have a line through them. Please choose a different term/ word to express your point.
If you believe that there has been a mistake made in your work being censored, please contact Canadian Geographic to explain why. You can find the ‘Contact Us’ link at the bottom of each page.
Q: How do I feature my Slideshow on the website?
You can submit your Slideshow to be featured on the website by pressing the ‘Star’ icon when viewing your Slideshows in the Members’ Centre. Once you click on the Star, your Slideshow will be submitted to Canadian Geographic for review. If your Slideshow gets approved you will receive a notification indicating that your Slideshow was approved. If your Slideshow gets rejected you will receive a similar notification explaining why it was not accepted.
You may, at any point in time, recall your submitted Slideshow, which will remove it from consideration for featuring.
All featured slideshows appear in the public Featured Slideshows section of the Learning Centre.
While a Slideshow is in consideration to be Featured, or has been accepted as a Featured Slideshow, you may not make any changes to that Slideshow’s content.
If you wish to make further changes to that slideshow, either recall if (prior to being accepted) or create a duplicate of the Featured version.
Q: What is the best way to present my Slideshow to my class?
There are two options in terms of presenting your Slideshow. One, you can play your Slideshow directly on screen/ tv. And two, you can export your Slideshow as a PDF and share an electronic version or printed out version with your students.
Q: What is the best way to present my Slideshow to a friend?
One of the best ways to share your Slideshow with a friend is to prompt your friend to sign up and register for an account. That way you will be able to easily share your Slideshows with any registered user. The second way is to export your Slideshow as a PDF and email them the file as an attachment.
Q: Can I include both English and French in a single Slideshow?
Unfortunately you cannot include both English and French content slides into one Slideshow. The language that you choose to start building your Slideshow in is the one that you will have to continue in. However, you may write in any language you wish when adding a custom slide to a Slideshow.
Q: How do I reset my password?
There is one way to reset your password. When you login to your account and click on ‘Edit Profile’ from the green menu bar, you are given the option to change your password on that page.
Q: What happens if I forget my password?
When you go to login to the members’ centre, you will see a link that says ‘Forgot Password’. By clicking on this link, you will be taken to a page that asks you to enter your email address that you created your account with. You will then receive an email with a unique url that will take you to a protected password reset page. You will follow the prompts to re-enter your email address and enter a new password. Once you submit the form you will receive a second email that will advise you that your password have been changed.
Q: How do I update my personal information?
Once you have an account set up, you can change your personal information by logging in, and choosing ‘Edit Profile’ from the question mark in the green menu bar. From there you will be able to change any information that you originally filled out when you first created your account.
Q: How do I set up an account/ register?
In the top right hand corner of the website, you will find a button that says ‘Login to the Members’ Centre’. By pressing it you will get a drop down that requests your email and password, and the option of choosing ‘Forgot your password?’ or ‘Don’t have an account?’. Clicking on ‘Don’t have an account’ will take your to the Registration Form and you will be on your way to setting up your account.
Q: How do I subscribe or unsubscribe to the Energy IQ newsletter?
If you would like to subscribe to the Energy IQ newsletter simply click on the newsletter icon at the bottom right hand side located on every page. Or you can find the newsletter square feature on the Home page of the website.
To unsubscribe from the Energy IQ newsletter, simply press the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of the newsletter and follow the prompts.
You may also change your subscription settings by visiting your member profile page if you have created an account on the system.
Q: What do you do with my personal information after I register?
Your personal information is secured and only allowed to be seen by Canadian Geographic. The information you provide allows us to track and monitor the reach and success of the program.
Q: How do I delete my account?
In order to delete your account you will need to contact a Canadian Geographic Administrator and make that request. Please press on the ‘Contact Us’ link at the bottom of each page and fill in your request as prompted.
The other option is to log into your account and use the “Help” form to request deletion. Please include the email address that is associated with your account as part of your request.
