    Biomass energy has been used since our ancestors learned the secret of fire. It is generated from organic materials, such as wood chips, agricultural by-products and municipal waste that is burned or converted into biofuel. This accounts for 827 MW of energy, most of which is generated at large pulp and paper mills.
